“And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave their testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.” (Acts 13:22)
In our hearts, we are made to be like Jesus. Are you a man or woman after God’s own heart? When you are a man after God’s own heart you will have a ‘hugged’ heart with God; your heart will agree in relationship with God. If your heart agrees in relationship with God, what is seen, what is heard, whatever may happen, will not affect your relationship with Him.
As a Christian, you may not always get it right but always remember that God loves you and values your relationship; you are His temple – where His Holy Spirit dwells.
We are known by our fruits. Only our character can testify to our confession of Christ. To be like Jesus, we must live in Him. To become God’s person, a Christian, born-again, you must be remoulded. It is essential to serve God with a willing heart, for the love of the heart is the only genuine principle from which a genuine relationship with the Lord can spring.
You are a work of art. The Holy Spirit wants to be Lord of your life so that you will no longer be in command of the little vessel in which you sail. Are you ready for Him?
“Do not be rash with your mouth,
And let not your heart utter anything hastily before God.
For God is in heaven, and you on earth;
Therefore let your words be few.”
When you open your mouth to pray, do you ever stop to think about who you are praying to? The Creator of Heaven and earth. Sadly, today most of our words that we say in prayer only entertain men but do not reach God.
The greatest achievement on earth is to pray as God wants us to pray. But prayer is not saying words; the Spirit of God is the Word on our lips. When Jesus ascended to Heaven, He left us the Comforter, the Holy Spirit to help us to be faithful, obedient to Christ, to help us to pray because He is the Word on our lips. But have we received any comfort from Him?
If we are honest with ourselves, we must admit that much of our conversation, prayer, preaching and teaching is nothing more than empty talk because it is not affected by the Holy Spirit.
Let us ask God for the grace to shut our mouths and open our hearts to the Spirit of God so that when we come before Him in prayer, we will let our words be few.
“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth… he lives with you and will be in you” (John 14:16).
Many of us still want to be in charge of our own lives. We already know what we want to wear tomorrow, we plan our timetable and iron our clothes for the week but how do we know we will be here tomorrow? We own today but God owns tomorrow. Many believe we can do it all alone without any reference to God but we are His greatest product, created to be under His influence.
The Holy Spirit wants to be Lord of your life and He wants to possess you so that you will no longer be in command of the little vessel in which you sail. On this great voyage of life, you are to be a passenger on the boat or one of the crew but definitely not in charge.
Decide today to give up the command of your vessel. Ask God’s Spirit to take up residence in your heart. When the Holy Spirit is residing in us, we have His kind of freedom (Romans 8:10).
Oh Holy Spirit make a way
Make my heart a place for You to dwell
Jesus was not the kind of person to be led by others. He did not labour to appear truthful; He simply was a man of truth. He said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32). And it is the truth of His life and message that has saved us today.
We are living in a world surrounded by lies. No one has to teach us to lie because by nature, man is rebellious. If you tell lies, you are speaking your father’s language for satan is the author of lies (John 8:44).
Truth becomes our protection against the lies of the adversary. But if you do not take time to find out the truth, you shall never come to the knowledge of the truth. The Holy Spirit is true for He is the Spirit of truth. Allow the Holy Spirit to speak to your heart to see yourself in the truth of God’s Word. “The sum of your word is truth, and every one of your righteous rules endures forever” (Psalm 119:160).
If you are pretending today, you cannot pretend forever; if you are lying today, you cannot lie forever. The only thing that will last forever is the truth of God’s Word.
If lying goes on for 100 years, truth one day will reach it (Psalm 94:15). So decide today to say no to lies and be on the winning side. As truth was older than terror, so it will survive it. It got the start and it will get the race.
We all cry sometimes but as the tears roll down your cheeks, have you ever stopped to ask yourself what gave birth to your crying? Is your cry born of self-pity or victimhood because you are looking for attention and lamenting over your present situation? Or is your cry born of faith because you want to receive from Jesus Christ?
In Matthew 15:22-28, the Canaanite woman cried out to Jesus for her daughter’s deliverance. In verse 26 Jesus replied “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to their dogs.”
This response was capable of discouraging any other woman in her position from pressing on with her request. She was not only ignored; she was also equated with a dog. But because she truly believed that Jesus was capable of meeting her needs, she knew that this seeming harsh treatment would soon pass away. She simply pressed on, saying, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Jesus saw this as a cry born of faith.
What are you crying about? The Lord may be taking His time to consider your request in order to test your faith just like the Canaanite woman. If your cry is born of faith because you want to receive of Jesus then you would respond with humility, modesty and perseverance. So be calm and determined and make sure your cry is a cry born of faith.
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize” (1 Corinthians 9:24)
Do you know what you need to run life’s race? It is not fast legs, it is not intelligence, it is not good connections or shortcuts.
In this world, fast runners do not always win the race. The brave, the strong do not always win the battle. The wise do not always earn a living and intelligent people do not always rise to high positions.
As believers, our life is a race. Jesus knew the troubles in this world would rob His followers of peace and tempt them to give up – that is why He said in Luke 22:32, “I have prayed for you that your faith will not fail.”
If you have faith in God, then joy is a fruit of that faith – true joy is something only believers have! “You will show me the path of life; in your presence is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:1)
There is one thing that will get us through this journey, that will strengthen us to finish the race, that will equip us to fight this battle – and that is joy. That is God’s promise for you – to give you joy for the journey.
Hebrews 12:28 – “Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe.”
I believe everyone will agree that we are living in an unsteady world where nothing is certain. The problem we face is that everything about us can be shaken – our emotions, our health, our finances, our relationships. That is why we cannot place our faith on things that can be seen.
Bad news can shake us, sickness can shake us, disappointment can shake us but with Jesus, the Rock of ages, we can walk steady, live steady and remain steady in an unsteady world.
As believers, we stand on the promise of receiving a Kingdom that cannot be shaken. Right now, the Kingdom of God is not far from you or beyond your reach; it is right in front of you in the Word of God.
No matter how unsteady the world around you appears to be, you can make this confession your roadmap: “I choose not to be broke, I choose not to live in poverty, I choose not to walk in disappointment, I choose to walk in God’s way. I am living steady, walking steady in an unsteady world!”
“Great peace have those who love your law, and nothing can make them stumble.” Psalm 119:165
Faith is our movement towards God. Faith enables us to see the unseen and thus endure when the visible world offers us no hope or encouragement. It was faith that enabled blind Bartimaeus to cry out to Jesus against the opposition of the crowd and receive his sight. It was faith that enabled four men to reach Jesus through the crowd, by lowering the paralytic man through the roof. Then he picked up his mat and walked. It was faith that enabled the woman with the issue of blood to press through the crowd, touch the hem of Jesus’ garment and receive instant healing. As seen in the above examples, we demonstrate what we believe by what we do. Faith acts now, believes now and receives now!
In God’s Word there is hope, forgiveness, direction, instruction, revelation and everything we need to live for God here and now. Because of Christ, all these have been made available to you and I. So, instead of simply being an onlooker, be a partaker of the inheritance of the saints by actively reaching out and taking God at His Word. Reach out and take the healing that is available to you, reach out and take the deliverance that is available for you, reach out and take the blessing that is available for you – by reaching out and acting faith now!

Today, many of us no longer see ourselves as God sees us because we are no longer conscious of our sin – I mean, our weaknesses. That is why, instead of acknowledging our weaknesses before Him, we dare His purity and holiness when we come to His presence only to ask for His blessings.
“When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, ‘Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!’ For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken… And Jesus said to Simon, ‘Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.’” – Luke 5:8-10 NKJV
Here we see, before Jesus, Peter was conscious of his weakness and believed that Jesus knew him as a sinner. That was why he felt undeserving of His presence. In response to Peter’s attitude toward his sin, Jesus did not look at his past but rather gave birth to his future as a fisher of men.
In whichever way you come to His presence, you must believe that God knows who you were, who you are and who you shall be. Right now, begin to acknowledge your position as a sinner in need of forgiveness and say to God, “Dirty as I am Lord, You can still cleanse me”, because no one is too good or too bad to qualify for salvation.
Are you worried about something? Is there a burden upon your spirit? As long as you are in this world there will be things poking you; there will be things disappointing you.
When we are troubled, we cannot be sensitive to the Spirit of God. You need a free spirit to pray. You need a free spirit to hear from God. You cannot hear from God when your spirit is troubled. If you pray at such times, you are talking to yourself. Therefore, ask God for a free spirit. Meditation reveals the burden in our spirit. Ask the Lord Jesus, “Take more of me; give me more of You”. When you are meditating this, you will find joy. It comes naturally; it comes spontaneously. Meditation in God’s Word is a visit with Him.
John 16:33 – “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
“In this world, there will be trouble. Cheer up! I have overcome.” This is why Jesus prayed, “I pray your faith will not fail”. This means there will be trouble that will tempt your faith but as a believer, God is aware of what you are going through. It has been prophesied that you will go through them but as one of His followers, it will not impair you but improve you if you allow it to draw you closer to Him.
“When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13)

When people look at your life, what do they take note of? Is it your appearance, your education, your talent or your inner virtue? Is it the colour of your skin or the content of your character? As a believer in Jesus Christ, no matter your situation, the way you react, the way you handle it matters a lot because the world is watching you. Among them are your friends, your relations, and those who do not share the same faith with you. They are watching to see the outcome of your faith.
Remember your life preaches a louder sermon than your mouth. Just like Peter and John who were unschooled, ordinary men, by the way you live your life, let people take note that you have been with the Healer, the Redeemer, the Comforter, the Deliverer – the name above all names – Jesus Christ!
Do you compare yourself with others and measure yourself by yourself? Remember, when you are not content and spend much of your time thinking about what you do not have, you may be slipping into unhealthy doubt that can lead you away from God to scepticism, cynicism, then hard-heartedness. These are the walls that stand as barriers between you and the Spirit of the Father.
The wall of Jericho had stopped the Israelites from entering the land whereas Jericho was God’s promise to the Israelites (Joshua 6:4-5). Nevertheless, faith joyfully confesses its victory. As the Israelites joyfully shouted their victory, the wall of Jericho fell. What is the wall in your life that stops you from receiving from God?
Joy is your conquering power (Nehemiah 8:10). “This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it” (Psalm 118:24). With this joy, break every wall of unhappiness, envy, jealousy, discontentment, offence and pain of the past that stands between you and the Spirit of the Father, in Jesus’ name. As that wall is broken in your life, experience the Bible come alive and the fulfilment of God’s promises.
The age of miracles has not passed; the Miracle Worker is still alive. The bank of miracles is in Heaven. “However, as it is written: ‘What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived” — the things God has prepared for those who love him’ ”(1 Corinthians 2:9). Therefore, let us not limit God in our prayer because He is rich beyond our dreams.
Knowing quite well how undeserving he was, blind Bartimaeus cried out, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Brethren, all of us would not merit His mercy because our righteousness is like filthy rags before God. We are not healed, blessed and delivered because of the works of righteousness we have done (Ephesians 2:8-9) but in mercy God has called us and healed, delivered and saved us. All we need is God’s mercy and favour. Blind Bartimaeus prayed, “Son of David, have mercy on me” and he testified that God restored his sight. In mercy, you are not excluded.
“Son of David, have mercy on me. Let Your mercy and favour speak for me, in Jesus’ name!” If you mean it, this can be a soul-saving and life-changing prayer. As you say this anointed prayer with all your heart without ceasing, begin to feel the presence of God restoring your testimony – healing, blessing and setting you free and you shall share your testimony to the glory of God, in Jesus’ name!
