Prophet TB Joshua

Apostle Paul said in (Romans 1:9), “For God is my witness, whom I serve in my spirit in the Gospel of His Son, how unceasingly I make mention of you always in my prayers”. Similarly, this Thursday, August 13, 2020, I was fortunate to receive a call from the man in SCOAN and his last encouraging words to me in the brief call was “We are praying for you”. It is a spirit-lifting moment knowing that you are not alone, that Prophet TB Joshua or his team in SCOAN is praying for you. In this COVID-19 pandemic era, we all need to keep praying for each other the more. Since the congregation worship has been limited by COVID-19 many families have been affected in different levels, and not just by COVID-19. Some of the challenges confronting Christians this pandemic era include disunity, lack of caring for each other regarding safety, isolation, or stress. But SCOAN is praying for you.

In hard times like this, not every pastor can be a certified public therapist when it comes to comforting others. But we’d watched the team in the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, how effectively they manage to bring smiles back to people in difficult and impossible circumstances across the globe. They offer effectual prayers that bring healing, deliverance, hope, renewed strength, increased faith and comfort. So when someone you know experiences a bad day, especially a loss of someone dear to them or a tragedy, how do you know what to say? Remember that the loss of a son may be different from the loss of a father, the loss of a wife different from the loss of a mother or grandmother, and so on. Pray for them and whenever you have the opportunity to tell them that, “I’m praying for you”.

We have to learn to say appropriately that, “I’m Praying for You and Your Family”, “I’m Praying for You” to a loved one, “I’m Praying for You” to a total stranger or acquaintance, or a fellowship group. Though telling someone that we’re praying for them may sound like the best option, but perhaps it won’t cut it. Maybe the person we are comforting doesn’t relate well to prayer. The Holy Spirit will give us other ways to extend comfort in not so many words. God’s Word says we can have confidence that when we pray, He hears us and we have the petitions we desire of Him. The only requirement is that those petitions must be made by His will for our lives. The question becomes, “How do we know His will?” The answer is simple. His will is in His Word which is the Bible. Hence we should pray what the Bible says and the Holy Spirit will help us to pray aright for people in their different situations. We should always also pray for Prophet TB Joshua, the entirely SCOAN team and individually.

The “effectual fervent prayer” is the energizing power similar to an electrical current that brings energy to a circuit. It is a passionate prayer, a heartfelt and persistent prayer. It’s a prayer driven by faith, love and total trust in God to do what only He can do for us or the persons being prayed for. The Amplified Bible, renders it another especially illuminating way, “The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available {dynamic in its working}” (James 5:16). This kind of prayer is quite the opposite of a lethargic, repetitious or superficial type. Whilst it’s passionate, it is not merely whipping up emotions, or generating exciting sounds or putting together a certain set of words, but rather expressing intense sincere confidence in God.

Interestingly, when the Holy Spirit inspired James to illustrate such prayer, he chose Prophet Elijah, whose prayers God had used to demonstrate His mighty power. “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit” (James 5:16-18). James’ point is that, although Prophet Elijah’s mighty prayers and exploits were legendary, Elijah was also a man of frailties and flaws like us. Thus, James’ message is clear. If God could hear and answer the passionate faith-filled prayers of Elijah, “a common man with a nature like ours,” He can likewise hear and answer our prayers too. The Lord is eager to answer the effectual, fervent prayers of ordinary, but righteous followers of Jesus Christ. Emmanuel
